Lauren Marie Collicott was born on 7th September 1998 to mummy Tracy and daddy Mark. She weighed in
at 7lb 1oz and had lots of black hair. Two days after she was born we were all ready to go home so
that Lauren could meet her excited brother and sister Matthew and Justine. We were waiting for the
usual check before leaving, when the doctor finally came round, they found a slight murmur on Lauren's
heart. They suggested that we went to Harefield hospital a few days later to have it checked out
further. At this point we were not at all worried, just was happy to be a family with our new baby.
She went for her scan at Harefield hospital and it was then discovered she had a congenital heart
condition called Tetraology of Fallots. At this point they were telling us all the complications
that could arise with this condition and how to deal with any episodes of breathlessness which sort
of went over our heads because she really didnt look like she had anything wrong with her.
We went home and carried on with a normal life. As Lauren got a bit older it was slightly noticeable
that she was very tired when she tried to roll over and sit up,yet she managed to reach these
milestones. It was suggested that she should have an operation that would treat her condition
completely,this was scheduled for 5th May 1999.
Lauren was a very happy baby always smiling and laughing, she loved to play with her toys in
particular her blue dog, octopus and whinnie the pooh rattle.
The day before her operation she was like any normal baby, she was whizzing up and down the hospital
corridors in her baby walker with glitter on her face.
Her operation took place on the 5th May 1999,and everything looked like it had gone well in the
operating theatre, although whilst in recovery Lauren kept having cardiac arrests. It was at this
point that it was said that she had been given the wrong medication in recovery however this was
never proven. The following day things were still not going well and they decided Lauren's only hope
was to go on the EKMO machine, at this point we knew that there wasnt much hope, but we felt we owed
it to Lauren to try anything that could save our little girl. We decided at this point to phone
family and friends, and the same day they all made the journey to the hospital.
On 8th May 1999 the doctors did the dreaded test to see if she would pull through and the result was
not good,it was the result that we had been dreading and we had to make the heart breaking decision
to turn off her machines. Lauren's nanny lives in Spain and had got on the first plane as soon as
she realised Lauren wasnt going to live, sadly she never made it in time too say goodbye.
Our precious baby girl, daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin had passed away. The grief that
was felt was a pain like no other.
We decided to have Lauren cremated and she had a small intimate funeral.
We wanted to have Lauren close to us at all times, and her daddy Mark created her special garden
inside our own back garden, enclosed with its own fence and pretty flowers, ornaments and a bench
which we often sit on to remember her.
Lauren now has another sister Georgia and another brother Alex, who visit the garden every day along
with Niece Sapphire and Nephew Brennon.
Every year on Lauren's birthday we release balloons into the sky in memory of our beautiful girl.

Even though the years pass and we have to get on with our lives, she is there with us every day,we
can sense she is with us and we try to keep her in our lives by visiting spiritualist evenings and
churches,we will never ever forget her and will continue to talk about her and remember her.
